Tests and Screenings -- What, When, and Why
"Why do I need a test? I feel fine." That manly refrain is heard countless times around America every day. But we men need to face facts: we’re not avoiding medical screenings and tests because we feel fine, we’re avoiding them because they strike fear in the hearts of even the stoutest lumberjacks. Most of us have this irrational fear of the tests themselves and a fear of what the tests might uncover. So we hide behind "I’m-feeling-fine; why-should-I-have-tests-done?"
The obvious answer is to increase your odds of living a complete and healthy life. Numerous illnesses and diseases can be handled, if not downright cured, if they are discovered early enough. Often that means even before visible symptoms have developed. Without certain tests, this would not be possible. The flip side of the male fear of tests is that when something does go wrong with our health, we immediately want to have every test possible to find out exactly what’s wrong, and what the best course of treatment should be. Somewhere, somehow, a balance needs to be struck. Doctor-Related Tests/Screenings
